Srinagar, Aug 10 (KNO): Jammu and Kashmir is likely to receive widespread rain and thundershowers over the next few days, with the Weather Department forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall in parts of the Jammu division on Tuesday August 11.
The Meteorological Centre, Srinagar, as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said the wet spell is expected to intensify tomorrow, when heavy to very heavy rain could occur at a few places in Jammu, while some areas of Kashmir may experience short-duration intense showers.
According to the forecast, light to moderate rain and thundershowers are likely at most places across Jammu and Kashmir till August 11, with the highest activity expected during the day and night of August 11.
The weather office has specifically warned that one or two locations could receive heavy to very heavy rainfall during the night of August 11.
Intense or torrential showers may lead to flash floods in vulnerable areas and trigger landslides, mudslides and waterlogging, particularly in low-lying areas, it said.
The advisory comes amid an active monsoon phase in the Union Territory, where intense rainfall has triggered flash floods and landslides at several locations in recent weeks.
The weather is likely to remain unsettled thereafter, with light rain and thundershowers expected at many places from August 12 to 16. Brief spells of intense rain cannot be ruled out at isolated locations during this period.
Another spell of light to moderate rain and thundershowers is forecast across many areas from August 17 to 19, with isolated intense showers also possible.

Meanwhile, the weather remained largely dry across Jammu and Kashmir during the 24 hours ending 8.30 am on Monday.
Srinagar recorded a maximum temperature of 33.2 degrees Celsius, which was 3.2 degrees above normal, while the minimum settled at 19.4 degrees Celsius.
Jammu recorded a maximum of 34.6 degrees Celsius against a normal of 33.1 degrees, while the minimum temperature was 25.1 degrees Celsius.
Pahalgam recorded a maximum of 27.2 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 17 degrees, while Gulmarg saw a high of 22.8 degrees and a low of 11.8 degrees.
The Meteorological Centre has advised people and authorities to remain cautious in vulnerable areas and stay alert to the possibility of flash floods, landslides and temporary waterlogging during periods of intense rainfall—(KNO)
